What's New in Microsoft Word 2010

Customizable Quick Access Toolbar
The Customize Quick Access Toolbar in Microsoft Word 2010 shows user the list of all the commonly used word options. The quick access toolbar button is located on the top left side corner of the Word window.  Three commonly used options namely Save; Undo and Redo are listed, by default, in the Quick Access Toolbar, however you can customize this toolbar by adding or deleting word other options easily.



Paste Preview
Microsoft Word 2010 has come up with an amazing new feature, Paste Preview. Now you can preview what you are going to paste using this option and thus can reduce the need to undo the paste change. Using this option you can either paste only values or formatting in the word document.



Enhanced Themes
Microsoft Word 2010 comes with new and enhanced themes that can be applied to any document from the main menu > Page Layout. You can also preview the available themes as thumbnail images, by selecting the ‘Themes’ buttons on the Page Layout tab.



Navigation Panel
In the previous versions of Microsoft word you had to select the Ctrl + F key from the keyboard in case you had to find any word or phrase within the word document, however in Microsoft Word 2010 when you select the Ctrl + F , a Navigation Panel opens on the left side of the word document. You are presented with 3 different views which you can view by selecting the respective tabs. The 3 views that are available are Heading View, Thumbnail Page View, and the Search Result View.



Customizable Ribbon
You can now customize the Microsoft Word 2010’s Ribbon. To customize ribbon, from the main menu, select File > Word Option > Customize Ribbon. Select or unselect the checkbox to add or delete particular tab or option so that it is shown or hidden in the main menu respectively.


Co-Authoring
This is a very useful addition which has been done in Word 2010. This feature is named co-authoring. This feature allows multiple authors to edit and review the same word document simultaneously. The Microsoft Word 2010 will display the number of authors that are editing the document along with their changes.

Screen Capturing Tool
The Microsoft Word 2010 comes with a new feature called Screen Capturing. Using this feature you can simply take the screenshot of any window that you want to include in your word document. This tool removes the need for any additional third party tool for taking screenshots. Use this built in tool and take screenshot in order to use them in your word document. You can either take screenshot of the complete window or of a particular portion.
To take the screenshot, From the main menu, select Insert > Screenshot.



Artistic Effects
You can now apply number of colorful artistic effects to the pictures you added in your word document using the new Artistic Effects feature in Word 2010.
To add a picture in your document, from the main menu, select Insert > Illustrations > Picture. Once the picture is added in your word document, the Picture Tools tab displays. On this tab you will see the new Artistic Effects drop down button. Use this button to add different artistic effects to your added images.



Background Removal
Microsoft Word 2010 has a new option that is called Background Removal. This option lets you remove background from any image that you have added in the word document. This feature removes the need of using an additional or third party software like Photoshop to remove the image background. Once you have added the image, the Picture Tools tab displays where you would find this Background Removal tool. Use this and get rid of the background.



Ligatures
Ligatures, makes any font look fancy along with keeping letters separate thus allowing the text searches as if font were regular. However, there are some fonts that do not support ligatures, but a large number of them do support. To use Ligatures, from the Font Preferences window > Advanced tab.
